Greetings and Classroom Etiquette

Mema wo akyē!

Day 2 of Week 1- We learned important phrases for the classroom so that our teacher can speak to us in Twi.

Greetings:
Mema wo akyē [Maakyē] = Good morning
Mema wo ahã [Maahã] = Good afternoon
Mema wo adwo [Maadwõ] = Good evening
Da yie = Good night / sleep well
Nante yie = Goodbye / walk safely

Responses:
Yoo = Alright (general response to greetings)
Yaa agya - proper response to older male / father
Yaa εna - proper response to older female / mother
Yaa ⊃ba - proper response to child by adult
Yaa nua - proper response to a colleague / person of same age (difficult to say! [yæænwĩã])



Important classroom phrases:
Kasa b⊃k⊃⊃ = Speak slowly / softly
Kasa dēn = Speak loudly
Kã bíõ = Say it again
Wose sεn [sεin]? = What did you say?
Mente asēε = I don't understand (it)
Sεn na yεka _____ w⊃ Twi mũ? = How do you say _____ in Twi?
Mennim = I don't know
Me werε afi = I've forgotten
Me pε sε _____. = I want to ______.
Eyε / E' _____. = It is / it's ______.
Me pa wo kyεw _____. = Please / I would like it if _____.
Meda wo ase / Medaase = Thank you

Favorite phrase(s) of day: Mē a! = It's me! ;  Wo a! = It's you!

We learned more, but these seem the most important. I'm having plenty of trouble remembering the words and phrases, even the simple ones! It really helps me to say them correctly when we break down sentences and repeat them many times, but I just can't remember them. I think that's how it is in a fast-paced class like this. Hopefully I'll do okay! We have a quiz on all this and more next week!
